magnetic Sand Timer
What do you get if you cross a rare earth magnet with iron filings? A very fuzzy magnet! But if you contain your iron filings within a non-metallic container or even an hour glass you can get some interesting shapes.
Although it looks just like your standard hour glass, this one actually creates a pretty sculpture when you have run out of time. As the iron filings fall down, they are attracted to the magnet and create jagged 3D shapes. Each shape is just like a snowflake, no two are ever the same.
